Upon his last trip to Jerusalem Paul was arrested in the Temple and placed in protective custody by Felix. Two years later Porcius Festus succeeded Felix, but he left Paul in prison to please the Jews.

The Jews tried to get Festus to bring Paul to Jerusalem. They wanted to ambush and kill Paul during his trip. However, Paul appealed to Caesar and was sent instead to Rome for a trial before the emperor.

This coin was made at that time in Judea in the first year of Festus, 58 A.D., or year 5 of Nero.
